Director's Choice - Gifts of Art 2019
See what’s new in the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s collection, and maybe discover a new favorite piece of art, in this exhibition curated by Dr. Charles L. Venable, The Melvin & Bren Simon Director and CEO at Newfields. Director’s Choice: Gifts of Art has become a highly anticipated tradition, and features exceptional gifts from our friends and donors to the Indianapolis community.
Many of the pieces will be on view for the first time, including recent acquisitions, paintings, sculptures, and fashion design, emphasizing the Museum’s broad collection of art. Highlights include a silkscreen portrait of Stephen Sprouse by Andy Warhol, a Rembrandt Noh Mask carved by Bidou Yamaguchi, an Alexander McQueen dress, and design objects from the estate of George R. Kravis II, a Tulsa businessman who collected more than 4,000 modern and contemporary objects in his lifetime. In 2018, his estate donated 131 pieces to the IMA.
These gifts will be on display in Newfields Alliance Gallery. Don’t miss this exhibition hand-picked by the director of Newfields
