Code of Conduct and Removal Policy

Newfields’ mission is to enrich lives through exceptional experiences with art and nature. We strive to create an accessible, engaging, educational, and inclusive experience throughout Newfields’ properties and the purpose of this policy is to ensure individuals do not infringe on any guest’s ability to enjoy an exceptional experience during their visit or any staff member’s ability to conduct their work safely. To this end, we expect all individuals to conduct themselves in a manner according to the rules below. Anyone unwilling to abide by the letter and spirit of these rules may be removed from Newfields’ properties, including the potential ban and inability of the individual to return and/or leading to possible arrest. 

Engaging in any of the following behaviors may result in removal from Newfields with no refund.  

  • Using violent, obscene, profane, hateful, or racist language or gestures.     
  • Threatening any individuals, including intentionally interfering with or preventing the execution of duties by Newfields’ staff. 
  • Tampering with, defacing, damaging, destroying, and/or removing any Newfields property, including objects from the art collection, living collection, historic properties, and any other exhibits or displays. 
  • Wearing obscene or indecent clothing or clothing with abusive or vulgar language, text, or graphics. 
  • Indecent exposure, sexual acts, comments, and/or behavior. 
  • Solicitations, advertisements, or endorsements of any financial, commercial, or not-for-profit organizations, websites, contests, or promotions. 
  • Fighting, provoking a fight, engaging in disorderly conduct, and other behaviors that may disrupt Newfields operations and other guests. 
  • Encouraging illegal activity and/or criminal trespassing. 
  • Public intoxication and/or the possession or use of alcoholic beverages not otherwise sold at Newfields. 
  • Possession, use, and/or selling of illegal drugs.  
  • Newfields is a smoke-free environment. Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, vaping, and smokeless tobacco, is not permitted.  
  • Bringing onto or attempting to hide any prohibited items on Newfields’ properties, including but not limited to: firearms, knives, and other weapons; hazardous materials; explosives (including fireworks); grills and alcoholic beverages; drones; and any other items that may be deemed dangerous or inappropriate by Newfields.  
  • Any other behavior determined by Newfields to threaten the safety of other individuals and/or property. 

Newfields reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to withhold or withdraw access to its properties. Newfields staff have the authority to approach anyone suspected of not complying with this Code of Conduct. Please follow any verbal instructions you are given by Newfields’ staff. Failure to comply may result in removal from Newfields’ properties and/or Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) may be called to assist with suspected criminal violations and/or non-compliant individuals. 

Removed individual(s) will be unable to access any of Newfields’ properties for a minimum of one (1) year or permanently, dependent on severity of actions that led to removal. To appeal this decision, the removed individual(s) will need to make a formal request in writing to Newfields.
