Educator Professional Development

Our professional development offerings seek to provide a range of opportunities for educators to learn, be inspired, relax, and engage with Newfields. Current and upcoming educator events designed to nourish educators' personal learning as well as provide strategies for use in the classroom and beyond.

Professional Growth Plan (PGP) Points Available

Newfields offers credit for educators seeking opportunities to earn PGP points towards license renewal. Many of our public programs, professional development workshops, and other events are eligible for PGP points (one point for each hour of participation). For questions, please contact the Education Team


Classes at Newfields take you outside of the classroom and into the galleries or the gardens. Newfields offers classes related to the permanent collection, exhibitions, and the gardens and grounds. Find descriptions of upcoming classes on the Calendar or see below.

  • We. The Culture and The Classroom
    • Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022 – 4 – 6pm

    • Educators are invited to explore a new exhibition We. The Culture: Works by The Eighteen Art Collective, a year-long exhibition featuring works by a group of 18 Indianapolis-based Black artists who were commissioned to paint the Black Lives Matter street mural on Indiana Avenue in August 2020. The exhibition showcases their works as individual artists and creative professionals. Discover ways to engage your students with community artists and their work, learn about educator resources, apply your creativity in the studios, and find out about We. The Culture School Days for high school and middle school students in 2023.
