About Kelly Korte

Kelly Korte is the Horticulture Volunteer Trainer and Manager at Newfields and a homegrown Midwesterner. By the age of twelve, he was anxious to get to work and started his career as the full-time gardener for the town doctor. He went on to learn several trades and by the age of twenty-five, he embarked on his academic journey at the University of Illinois that helped him discover his love of science. Kelly ultimately found his way to horticulture because of the diversity of classes it allowed him to explore. After college, he spent 19 years working for the green industry in central Texas focusing on water, integrated pest management, and personnel management. This is where his journey through trauma recovery began, both personally and through volunteerism. Kelly embarked on the work needed to address his own developmental trauma and sought opportunities to help veterans affected by PTSD as part of his healing journey with his father. In 2019, he returned to the Midwest and joined the Newfields team where he is able to apply all that he has learned over the years to his position in community development. Most recently, Kelly has received his Certificate in Therapeutic Horticulture from North Carolina State University, which he hopes will further his personal mission to create space where people have the opportunity to thrive.

For half a century, Robert Indiana’s LOVE has been the he(art) of Newfields collection. And there is a whole lot to love.
