The Truth of Freedom with Angelita Hampton
Join local artist and guest curator Angelita Hampton for an intimate look at The Truth of Freedom: African Diaspora to Afrofuturism. The exhibition is a visual journey that reflects on the history of the African Diaspora and its varied celebrations of liberation while connecting them with visions of the future and the persistent advancements of liberty and freedom for African descendants around the world. Continuing in the legacy of the ancestors who engaged in resistance by imagining worlds of equality and justice for Black people, the local Black artists featured in this exhibition use Afrofuturism's fusion of history, science fiction, and fantasy to explore the Black experience and expound new visions of the future of Black people. This year marks the third iteration of The Truth of Freedom, as it continues to commemorate Juneteenth in ever-expanding reimaginations of this celebratory and subversive exhibition.
