Summer Camps for Ages 6–17
9AM–4PM

Sessions for campers aged 6-17 offer more advanced art instruction, opportunities to explore the galleries and grounds, and the chance to experiment with familiar and unfamiliar materials. Campers will create 2-D and 3-D designs and will learn new techniques in a fun environment.

Creating Creatures 

Dates: Monday, June 2– Friday, June 6 

Time: 9AM–4PM

Let your imagination run wild. Inspired by animals both real and make believe, campers will use various art materials to bring their fantastic creatures to life. From clay sculptures to painted masterpieces, each project is designed to inspire creativity and storytelling.

Art that Moves: Going Around with Kinemotion 

Dates: Monday, June 9–Friday, June 13 

Time: 9AM–4PM 

Ages: 6–8

Join us for an energetic camp where young artists will learn about kinetic art by creating pieces that swing, spin, and move. With inspiration from dynamic artists and Kinemotion, the newest interactive sculpture in The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park, campers will bring their own creations to life.

Tales, Fables, and Stories 

Dates: Monday, June 23–Friday, June 27 

Time: 9AM–4PM

Join us for a camp where stories leap off the page and into art. Campers will explore classic tales and fables, using art to bring characters and scenes to life. Through drawing, painting, and sculptures, campers will use their imaginations to create visual stories full of adventure.

Art and The Garden 

Dates: Monday, June 30–Thursday, July 3 

Time: 9AM–4PM 

Ages: 6–8 

Members: $350 

Public: $375 

Explore the colors and textures of nature and art in this camp designed to connect campers with the world around them. Young artists will create art inspired by the colors and shapes in The Garden at Newfields.

An Explosion of Color: Inspired by Alma Thomas  

Dates: Monday, July 21–Friday, July 25 

Time: 9AM–4PM 

Ages: 6–8 

Members: $350 

Public: $375 

Inspired by Alma Thomas’ vibrant art, campers will experiment with bold colors, shapes, and patterns. From paper collages to painted canvases, campers will learn about color theory and self-expression, all while creating their own brilliant works of art.

A World of Art

Young artists will explore different cultures and art forms by creating pieces inspired by global traditions and international artists. Each day will feature a new destination and project, encouraging curiosity and creativity as campers create their own world of art.

The Science of Art

Campers will conduct experiments, explore color chemistry, and discover how physics plays a role in art making. This engaging camp will spark curiosity as campers create unique artworks and learn how science and creativity work together.

Bright & Bold: Exploring Alma Thomas  

Dates: Monday, July 21–Friday, July 25 

Time: 9AM–4PM 

Ages: 8–10 

Members: $350

Celebrate bold colors and creative expression in this camp inspired by artist Alma Thomas. Campers will explore her distinctive style through painting, collage, and more. Each project will encourage campers to think big, paint with vibrant hues, and embrace their own artistic flair.

Brush / less: Let’s Paint! 

Dates: Monday, June 2–Friday, June 6 

Time: 9AM–4PM 

Ages: 11–14

In this innovative camp, young artists will explore traditional and alternative painting techniques using sponges, sticks, fingers, and more. This week is all about experimentation and discovering new ways to create beautiful and bold artworks with and without a traditional paintbrush.

Off the Wall: Sculptures and Kinemotion  

Dates: Monday, July 7–Friday, July 11 

Time: 9AM–4PM 

Ages: 11–14 

Members: $325

Get ready to think in three dimensions. In this camp, young artists will explore sculpting techniques and create works that go beyond the canvas. Using clay, wire, and mixed media, campers will build dynamic sculptures inspired by kinetic art and modern masterpieces.

Get Animated! 

Dates: Monday, July 14 –Friday, July 18 

Time: 9AM–4PM 

Ages: 11–14 

Members: $325 

Public: $350 

Jump into the world of animation. Campers will create their own animated shorts and learn about storyboarding, character design, and animation techniques. With plenty of hands-on activities, aspiring animators will bring their characters to life and experience the art of storytelling through motion.

Make a Movie 

Dates: Monday, July 14–Friday, July 18 

Time: 9AM–4PM 

Ages: 14–17 

Members: $315 

Public: $335 

Campers will learn the filmmaking process as well as scriptwriting, directing, and editing. In collaboration with The National Bank of Indianapolis Summer Nights Film Series, this camp will introduce young film makers to the art form of movie making.
