Chicago Imagist Art: The Robertson-Slapak Collection

Chicago Imagist Art: The Robertson-Slapak Collection
Museum Hours

The Chicago Imagists were a group of young artists who studied together at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the mid-1960s. Today, they are widely regarded among the most important postwar American artists. Chicago Imagism was not a movement, nor does it describe a singular style. Take in these vivid and unusual paintings and a sculpture and learn about how the term applies to a general artistic sensibility that arose in the city at the time.

This exhibition features a selection of seven important works given to the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields by Drs. Michael J. Robertson and Christopher A. Slapak.

Most works included in Chicago Imagist Art: The Robertson-Slapak Collection were exhibited in the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields in Private Eye: The Imagist Impulse in Chicago Art from May 21 through December 5, 2021
