Now is your chance to help pick which film you’d like to see on the big screen at The Amphitheater at Newfields!  

The four specially selected films will face off against each other in an audience vote to determine which film will ultimately be shown at Summer Nights on July 7. Voting will take place in bracket format where two contenders face off for selection each week. In our final round, Hidden Figures faces off against Black Panther.  

The final film selection will be announced on June 7, 2023.

As the United States races Russia to put a man in space, NASA finds untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians: Dorothy Vaughn (Octavia Spencer), Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), and Katherine Gobels Johnson (Taraji P. Henson). Serving as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history, our heroines rise through the ranks of NASA breaking barriers as they go.

Black Panther (PG-13)   

T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), heir to the hidden but technologically advanced kingdom of Wakanda, returns to lead his people into a new future as king. But he soon finds out he is challenged for the throne. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, our hero known as Black Panther must team up with the CIA and Dora Milaje, Wakanda special forces, to save the kingdom.

The Great Debaters (PG-13) 

Based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson (Denzel Washington), a professor at Wiley College in 1935 Texas, inspires his students to form the school’s first debate team. Tolson coaches the debate team to a nearly undefeated season that sees the first debate between White and Black U.S. colleges. The team goes on to challenge the national champions, Harvard University.
