Inspire

Innovate exhibitions and gallery experiences

Newfields is committed to providing engaging and enriching experiences with Art. The following projects will help us to reach a more diverse and larger audience than ever before.

Hawryluk Collection of Art in Nature and The Hawryluk Sculpture Green

Ongoing

Thanks to longtime Newfields supporter and Trustee, Kent Hawryluk, new sculpture is being planned for The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park and The Garden. Hawryluk’s generous gift affords the institution funding to commission site-responsive permanent and temporary sculpture throughout campus.

The Hawryluk Collection of Art in Nature sits firmly at the intersection of Newfields mission. With this gift, curators are able to bring the IMA Galleries to The Garden and Park. The original concept for the Park included a rotating series of temporary sculptures. With this funding Newfields will be able to continue to fulfill this vision for The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park and bring the beauty of sculpture to The Garden at Newfields.

Clowes Pavilion Renovation and Reinstallation

Ongoing-2021

As you may have noticed, The Clowes Pavilion is temporarily closed.  Thanks to grants from The Clowes Fund and The Allen Whitehill Charitable Foundation, the Pavilion will be modernized to more successfully engage with today's audiences through new lighting and infrastructure for interactive and digital media experiences. After all this work is done, the Clowes Collection of Old Master paintings will look better than ever, when the Pavilion reopens in fall 2021.

Newfields is committed to making art accessible to all. Upgrades to the Clowes Pavilion will allow curators to tell new stories with Old Masters, using innovative interpretation that caters to all learning styles.

Jan B. Rubin Art Exhibition Fund

Ongoing

In memory of longtime friend of the IMA and docent, Jan Rubin, this endowed fund will provide exhibition support across the museum, from Old Masters to Contemporary Art. With this gift, her husband, George Rubin, hopes to promote Jan’s appreciation for the arts and encourage IMA visitors to see new perspectives through artwork.

Newfields is diversifying its art offerings to appeal to all guests, both longtime supporters and new visitors. With the support of this gift, staff will be able to provide the exhibitions guests have come to know and love, like Matisse, Life in Color Masterworks from the Baltimore Museum of Art and Ai Wei Wei: According to What?

The Anna S. White Endowed Fund for Contemporary Art

Ongoing

Anna White’s longstanding leadership as Board Chair, Life Trustee, President, and Member of the Contemporary Art Society and the Alliance of the IMA, along with various other leadership roles, will forever be admired and remembered by the Newfields community. The Anna S. White Endowed Fund for Contemporary Art will support lectures, conversations, and exhibitions, as well as the curatorial research, travel, and curatorial fellowships that will advance the field of contemporary art and its unique potential to transform lives.

Newfields believes that Contemporary Art is a wonderful access point for new art enthusiasts and can help to interpret historical art in important ways. Through this gift we will be able to offer Contemporary Art experiences for a broader audience.
