ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS THROUGH AUGUST 22

Calling all artists and creatives! Make a monster that will frighten and delight guests in The Garden at Newfields all fall long.

Artists, organizations, and community groups are invited to apply to design and build spooktacular monsters to grace The Garden. A handful of monsters will be exhibited during Harvest Nights, illuminating the path and guiding guests through the after dark festival.  

Please note: Applications close Tuesday, August 22 at midnight.

Guidelines:

  • Monsters will be large-scale, outdoor, installations that measure about 8 feet wide, 8 feet high, and 4 feet deep.
  • An honorarium will be provided to selected artists.
  • Artists need to be available every Monday in October between 8:30 and 10:30 AM to maintain and refresh their sculpture.

Key dates:

  • Tuesday, August 22: Garden Monster Applications close at midnight 

  • Thursday, August 24: Artists notified of acceptance 

  • Monday, September 4: Final rendering & supply list due from artists 

  • Monday, September 25: Install takes place on site

  • Tuesday, September 26: Back up rain plan install date 

  • Every Monday of October: Artist refresh  

  • Wednesday, November 1: Deinstall

Time Commitments
Thursday, August 29th: Onsite Orientation (6 PM-7:30 PM, Mandatory) Tuesday, September 10th: Final Renderings & Artist Statement Due Monday, September 23rd: Garden Monster Install (9:30 AM-3 PM, Mandatory) Tuesday, September 24th: Weather Back Up Date for Install (9:30 AM-3 PM, Mandatory) Refresh as needed to be dictated by Newfields staff.

Guidelines Acknowledgement *
By checking this box I confirm that I have read the 2024 Garden Guidelines. To my knowledge, I can accommodate all requirements in the Guidelines and understand that all Installations are outside for 30+ days, exposed to the elements and available for guests, staff and volunteers to walk up to, touch and take pictures of.
Materials Acknowledgement *
By checking this box I confirm that I have read the Garden Monster Lookbook and understand that the Garden Monster must be primarily be constructed of Natural materials and response strongly to The Garden and the 2024 Theme of Petrifying Plants & Bewitching Blooms.
