The Alliance of Newfields Artful Living Series
In the first decade of this century, the Indianapolis Museum of Art rapidly assembled a leading collection of contemporary design objects in advance of a popular traveling exhibition, European Design: Shaping the New Century. Unfortunately, one of these objects, a brightly colored polka dot ceramic vase, returned from its inaugural exhibition badly faded. Join Dr. Smith as he unravels the mystery of the unusually fast fading of this formerly colorful object and explains how the science laboratory at the IMA now protects its collections against further unwanted surprises. Stay after the lecture for a rare opportunity to view the Newfields Conservation Science Laboratory a 3,000 square foot state-of-the-art analytical and research laboratory for the study of artists’ materials during an open house.
