Winterlights

Presented by Bank of America

Winterlights
5 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Experience the wonder of over a million and a half lights glittering in The Garden this holiday season at Winterlights presented by Bank of America. Just over the river and through the woods Winterlights transforms Newfields into a winter wonderland. For the fifth year in a row tradition abounds and old favorites return—Landscape of Light dances on Lilly Allée while wind whistles in the Ice Storm Walk. See your family and friends’ eyes twinkle as they take in new additions including Huckleberry Funk’s own projection-mapped rock show and local artist Anila Agha’s mesmerizing sculpture that uses light and shadow to explore concepts of communal space, belonging and exclusion. Don’t forget the treats—holiday goodies like gooey chocolate chip cookies and hot cocoa are served up under the glow of the lights. Grab your friends and family—maybe a scarf and some mittens, too and get ready to wrap yourself in the magic of the holidays during Winterlights.

Winterlights FAQs

What is new at Winterlights?

There are three significant additions to Winterlights this year. After being a hit last year, Huckleberry Funk’s beloved cover “This Christmas” by Donny Hathaway will move from Landscape of Light to a new feature of its own, Harmony Tree. Located on the recreation lawn, this addition is sure to bring a smile to everyone, young and old.

In the Four Seasons Garden guests can enjoy a new sculpture by local artist Anila Agah titled The Greys in Between. Inspired by Islamic architecture, Agha uses light and shadow in combination with intricate patterning to explore concepts of communal spaces, belonging and exclusion.

Last but not least, there will be a vintage Christmas tree display near the Madeline F. Elder Greenhouse that will be a perfect place to snap a family photo or enjoy a warm hot cocoa.

Will I see any of my old favorites?

Yes! Now in its fifth year, Winterlights has become a tradition for families from Indianapolis and beyond. Old favorites including Snowflake Bridge, Landscape of Light and the Grand Finale will return this year.

Do I need a mask for my visit?

Don't forget your mask! You'll need it to see Deck the Halls inside Lilly House during your visit. You don't want to miss it.

Will there be food and drinks available for purchase?

Yes! Light snacks will be available to purchase at two locations throughout Winterlights. Festive snacks include gingerbread popcorn from Just Pop In, giant cookies from Circle City Sweets, and a make-your-own s’mores station by the Girl Scouts. Favorite seasonal beverages for young and old are available for purchase, including Newfield’s famous hot cocoa, apple cider (with the option to add West Fork Whiskey) and Sun King Brewery’s exclusive Newfields brew, Electric Reindeer.

Will there be places to shop during Winterlights?

Yes! There are two retail opportunities during Winterlights. Holiday shoppers can expect to find unique ornaments and locally handmade gifts at the Wintermarket along with other gifts by local makers, and a selection that is sure to delight everyone on your shopping list.
