Stout Reference Library
The Stout Reference Library is a noncirculating library with a primary focus on the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s collection and the visual arts more broadly. The selection of about 120,000 volumes includes books, periodicals, auction catalogs, ephemera files, and museum and gallery publications from around the world. The library also subscribes to electronic databases supporting art history and market research.
The Stout Reference Library makes its holdings searchable through the Indianapolis Public Library Catalog. To limit search results to the Stout Reference Library holdings, click on "Advanced Search" and below “Held at” select "Museum – Newfields (Indianapolis Museum of Art)”.
Please be aware that we cannot answer any questions related to the value or authentication of works of art. Works of art may not be brought into the library at any time.

1-4 PM on Free First Thursdays or by appointment
We recommend making an appointment for your research to ensure that staff are available to assist you. Appointments are generally available Tuesdays-Fridays during museum hours.
