What’s Blooming at Spring Blooms / Update #3

April 10, 2026

Jaime Frye, Associate Curator of Living Collections

Back to Newsroom

This update is later in the week than normal, but what better way to prepare for a beautiful weekend?

We have officially descended into the madness of peak Spring Blooms presented by Wild Birds Unlimited. Tulips are everywhere. The redbud collection is putting pep in my step. Every view, vista, bed, and corner of The Garden is glowing. If you can get here to catch this perfect moment before it’s over, I’d strongly recommend it.

Jonathan Wright, the Ruth Lilly Director of The Garden and Fairbanks Park, always says we want you to walk into The Garden and take a big exhale as you find yourself completely immersed in the landscape. It’s a lovely sentiment, but this week I’m hoping for the opposite. I want hearts beating, souls screaming, and your eyes on fire from taking in every drop this gorgeous place has to offer. We can go back to our regularly scheduled peace and tranquility next week.

Instead of my normal word-heavy update I bring you more images with image-driven captions. Enjoy some useful commentary in smaller snippets. I’d rather drool over photos than read my own writing so I assume you feel the same.

I hope to see you in The Garden!

Warmest Wishes,

Jaime Frye

Let’s take a walk…

The Gene and Rosemary Tanner Orchard’s apple trees (Malus Enterprise and Malus Goldrush) are in full bloom right now. Horticulturist Marian Keith does a stellar job pruning these trees for health and structure.
