Join Mark Zelonis, former Ruth Lilly Deputy Director of Environmental & Historic Preservation, to learn about his work overseeing the monumental restoration project of Lilly House and the Rapp Family Ravine Garden in the late 90s/early 2000s. Learn about the challenges faced in maintaining historical integrity, see never-before-seen photographs, and discover the meticulous work involved in restoring the historic home and landscape. 

After the lecture, head outside to Lilly House and see what's blooming in the Rapp Family Ravine Garden.  

In June 2023, Greenhouse Horticulturist and Orchid Specialist Ian Wilhite traveled to the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew in London where he worked alongside some of the foremost orchid specialists in the world.  

Join us for a rare glimpse into the world of botanical research as he shares the details of his trip. Ian will highlight his work with rare and endangered orchids and speak about the importance of collaboration between large institutions like Kew and smaller collections like the Madeline F. Elder Greenhouse to conserve diverse plant species.  

Kew Gardens is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to massive conservatories of living plants, including over 6,000 orchids, an herbarium that contains about seven million preserved plant specimens, laboratories, seed collections, and many of the rarest orchids in the world. 

Join the Tom & Nora Hiatt Director of Horticulture, Chad Franer, for a special tour highlighting four of our unique fountains. Chad will share fun facts and historical knowledge about each one. Plus, you’ll hear about the recent upgrades to the Glick Fountain on The Allée and see the new dancing display at the top of the hour.

After the orientation, head up to Floor 2 of the IMA Galleries for light snacks, cash bar, and an opportunity to explore the Galleries. Docents will be available for any questions about the art.
