Wee Wonders

Join us for an adventure with art and nature. Participants and their grown-ups will sing songs, read a story, and make art while exploring the IMA Galleries or The Garden at Newfields.

This fun-filled experience is specially designed for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers; younger siblings are welcome. One adult is included per child. There will be activities and spaces to explore each week. Additional adults are welcome with a General Admission ticket. When the season and weather allows, Wee Wonders will be held outside. If the weather is crumby or cold, we will be inside the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Not ready for your art adventure to end? Tickets include General Admission so you can continue exploring after Wee Wonders. If you have questions, please email WeeWonders@discovernewfields.org

Themes

May | Bugs

Beneficial bugs make our world go round. This month’s theme will introduce how vital bugs are to our food systems. We will sing a garden hunt song, learn about bugs through a story, and create our own cute critters in an artwork.

  • On May 2, we'll read Butterflies Under Our Hats by Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and craft a bug headband.

  • On May 8, we'll read Bee Dance by Rick Chrustowski and craft a bee hand puppet.

  • On May 22, we'll read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and craft a butterfly.

June | Birds

Birds fly up high, birds in the sky. Birds at rest, birds in their nests. Flap into the world of birds with a garden hunt song, some birdy books, and birder-approved art making.

  • On June 12, we'll read The Blue Songbird by Vern Kousky and craft binoculars.

  • On June 26, we'll read Birds by Laura Dronzek and craft a bird nest.

July 10, 24 | Bees

Adventure into The Garden to investigate the business of the bees in a storybook, finding a bee’s favorite flowers with the help of a song, and creating your own bee-utiful artwork.

On July 10, we'll read The Honey Bee by Kirsten Hall and craft paper tube bees.

On July 24, we'll read Bee Dance by Rick Chrustowski and craft bubble wrap honeycomb art.
