Rebecca Louise Law: Efflorescence
Rebecca Louise Law: Efflorescence transforms the Efroymson Family Entrance Pavilion into a breathtaking immersive environment. Suspended overhead in cascading layers, the large-scale installation is composed of approximately 37,000 dried flowers and plant elements harvested from across Newfields and combined with over one million flowers from the artists collection. Created in collaboration with the Indianapolis community, Efflorescence invites guests to experience the beauty, fragility, and wonder of the natural world in new and profound ways. Law is renowned for her monumental installations of preserved flowers and plants, transforming them into living archives that celebrate nature while reflecting on cycles of growth, change, and renewal. The title Efflorescence refers to the moment a plant blooms or unfolds. In this installation, it also suggests the power of collective creation. Gathered from many places and assembled through the work of many hands, the suspended landscape reflects the connections between people, place, and the environment. As guests move beneath the installation, they are invited to slow down, look closely, and consider the ways communities and ecosystems are intertwined.
Artist Rebecca Louise Law
Rebecca Louise Law works with preserved natural materials, especially flowers, to create large-scale installations and related works in other media. Her practice explores consumption, ecological responsibility, and the passage of time, often holding organic matter in a state between growth and decay.
In addition to installation, Law’s multidisciplinary practice includes painting, printmaking, weaving, glass, pottery, and video. Since 2003, she has maintained an extensive collection of materials from her projects, including floral remnants and dust, which she reuses in future works. Collaboration is also central to her art, with many projects developed through participatory processes that emphasize collective labor and shared authorship.
