Now that we’re halfway through 2025, what are your thoughts on Mocha Mousse as color of the year? Every year since 2000, Pantone has selected a color to capture “moods, trends, and shared experiences we’re all navigating together.” Long an authority on color and a go-to designer resource, Pantone has selected Mocha Mousse Pantone 17-1230 this year.
Mocha Mousse, while subdued, is “a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.” This is the first time in the 25-year history of this initiative that Pantone has chosen a shade of brown.
We set about hunting for this hue on Newfields’ campus by way of the internet. Our powerful online collections portal includes a distinct color palette for each object with an associated image. And as a new feature, you can now search the collection by color.
Does Mocha Mousse resonate with you?
Joseph Mallord William Turner (English, 1775–1851), Frontispiece, 1812, ink on paper, etching and mezzotint, various dimensions. Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, Bequest of Kurt F. Pantzer, 80.707.7.
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of Pantone Color Institute remarks that “…Mocha Mousse is sophisticated in its simplicity, sensorial in its appeal, and soft in its presence, promoting a sense of harmony and balance that resonates in our fast-paced digital age.” Pantone says Mocha Mousse is all about “me moments”—however you define them. With half of the year to go, we can continue to pause for small indulgences.
If this shade isn’t quite your speed, choose a different color and explore the new feature on the Collections Portal for yourself.
