Members-Only Tour: Conservation Science Lab with Greg Smith
Join Otto N. Frenzel III Sr. Conservation Scientist Gregory D. Smith for an exclusive look inside the Conservation Science Lab. Founded in 2010, the 3,000 square foot, state-of-the-art analytical and research facility is rarely seen by the public. Learn how art and science intersect as advanced techniques and specialized instrumentation reveal hidden stories within works of art.
Newfields is one of a handful of museums in the country with a fully equipped, onsite science lab devoted to the study of materials. Scientists collaborate with the conservation and curatorial staff to conduct research on the Museum’s collection, guide conservation and repair processes, and ensure artworks are stored and displayed under optimal conditions.
