Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime Member, First Thursdays are the perfect opportunity to discover something new and have an exceptional experience with art and nature.

On this day, general admission is flexible—you choose how much (or how little) to pay. Donations support programs like First Thursday and the care of our art collection and garden, as well as education programs, community engagement initiatives, and more.

Black History Month at Newfields

Join us for a 50^th anniversary celebration of Black History Month, a milestone honoring half a century of resilience, creativity, and cultural impact. Enjoy tours of the Indianapolis Museum of Art collection, learn from local artists, and experience live music and dance performances by local performers.

Explore featuring newly acquired works from cutting-edge contemporary African artists, groove to live performances by local musicians and participate in art-making activities inspired by themes of heritage and empowerment. Together, we’ll honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future of Black artistry and excellence.

Cereal Cinema: Soul

Cereal Cinema combines two of the best things about Saturday mornings: cereal and a great movie.  The Athenaeum, Indy Film Fest & Newfields invite you to join our monthly series where we screen some of the funniest, most captivating, kid-friendly movies from the past to the present. Each ticket gets you a bowl of cereal from our buffet of options, with additional cereal and coffee available for purchase.

The Queens of Art Collective

The Queens of Art Collective brings together the work of four African American women artists whose practices are rooted in lived experience and creative resilience. Through painting, mixed media, photography, and expressive visual language, these artists offer intimate perspectives on strength, beauty, and the complexity of African American womanhood.

As you explore the exhibition, consider how each artist transforms individual stories into shared meaning. Together, their works spark conversations about identity, family, community, self-determination, and connection.
