Bold: New Voices in Contemporary Art
In Newfields’ newest exhibition, Bold: New Voices in Contemporary Art, guests will discover thirteen works from the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields that highlight our ever expanding and globally relevant contemporary art collection. Featured in the exhibition are several newly acquired works from cutting-edge contemporary African artists including Wole Lagunju, Turiya Magadlela and Kimathi Mafafo. The artists in the exhibition push the boundaries of traditional painting, moving beyond oil and acrylic to create dynamic works that incorporate textiles, found objects, digital imagery, and handmade materials in electrifying unconventional compositions.
Seniors Stay Creative
Creativity knows no age limit. Seniors, discover the joy of art with like-minded peers in this guided art making in The Studios at Newfields. Each class is led by a teaching artist and corresponds with an exhibition that is on view in the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields. Join us for just one class or come to many. Mediums and art activities change regularly. This month's theme is Bold: New Voices in Contemporary Art.
Gallery Explorers
Explore, investigate, and create together. In this class designed for 5 to 10-year-olds and their adult, you’ll go on a guided exploration in the IMA Galleries using your very own art passport to track which countries you explore. Then, you’ll design your own artwork inspired by your findings to take home. Gallery, country, and art making materials change monthly. This month's theme is the Forefront Gallery.
Docent Tour: Black History Month
Join us for a special themed tour of the IMA Galleries in honor of Black History Month led by one of our Docents. Tours generally feature three works of art and are approximately 30 minutes long.
