Wee Wonders

Join us for an adventure with art and nature. Participants and their grown-ups will sing songs, read a story, and make art while exploring the IMA Galleries or The Garden at Newfields.  

This fun-filled experience is specially designed for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers; younger siblings are welcome. One adult is included per child. There will be activities and spaces to explore each week. Additional adults are welcome with a General Admission ticket. When the season and weather allows, Wee Wonders will be held outside. If the weather is crumby or cold, we will be inside the Indianapolis Museum of Art. 

Not ready for your art adventure to end? Tickets include General Admission so you can continue exploring after Wee Wonders. If you have questions, please email WeeWonders@discovernewfields.org

Let’s take a closer look at those plants. They may be edible. Explore The Garden to spot food among the flowers, read about some curious food stories, and create your tasty masterpiece in this outdoor adventure.

On August 14, we'll read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett and craft a paper plate pizza.

On August 28, we'll read Curious George Makes Maple Syrup by C.A. Krones and craft cardboard carrots.

September 4, 25 | Rocks

Shift, stack, and sort in this month’s classes all about rocks. The quiet and humble surface beneath our feet becomes the star of the show. Explore sand, pebbles, and rocks through storytime, garden exploration, and art making.

On September 4, we'll read When You Find the Right Rock by Mary Lyn May and craft a pebble sensory container.  

On September 25, we'll read What Can You Do with a Rock? by Pat Zietlow Miller and craft clay and rock sculptures.

October 9, 23 | Forest

Gentle hush of the wind through leaves. Step into the world of lush and peaceful forests. Discover all the creatures that call this habitat home through picture books, a tree filled garden hunt, and an art project.

On October 9, we'll read Maple by Lori Nichols and craft a painted tree.  

On October 23, we’ll read The Busy Tree by Jennifer Ward and craft animal masks.

November 13 | Colors

Colors, colors everywhere. Finding colors is extra fun at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Explore the rainbow of colors to be found during an art hunt, learn about colors through story time, and play with colors during craft time.

On November 13, we'll read A Book About Color by Mark Gonyea and craft a watercolor initial.
