The Garden bursts to life with carpets to canopies of fantastic floral abundance. This colorful season of growth brings families together to celebrate traditions—birthdays, holidays, festivals, or simply a walk to enjoy a favorite spring spot.

Beethoven's Nine: Ode to Humanity
5:30 Doors Open | 5:45 PM Butler University Performance | 6:30 PM Film Begins | DeBoest Lecture Hall at NewfieldsIn early 2023, filmmaker Larry Weinstein set out to make a documentary about Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Beethoven’s Nine: Ode to Humanity is about music, war, and hope. It follows nine unique individuals including Ukrainian musicians, a deaf composer, a Polish rock star, a best-selling author, a legendary cartoonist, and Weinstein himself. The documentary highlights the legacy of Beethoven’s Ninth, the composer’s own struggles, the inspiration music can provide, and how humanity looks for hope even in the darkest times.

Arbor Day at Newfields
11 AM–1 PM | NewfieldsJoin us for a tree-mendous Arbor Day celebration at Newfields. Join Newfields experts to help spruce things up by planting native trees in Fairbanks Park or The Garden.

Wee Wonders in the Wild
11 AM–Noon | The Garden at NewfieldsCome get WILD with us while exploring The Garden at Newfields. Wee ones and their grown-ups will sing songs, complete a sensory activity, read a story, and make art to take home.

Greenhouse Class: Macramé Orchid Holder
1–3 PM | Lilly House at NewfieldsMake your own macramé orchid plant holder in this two-hour guided session in Lilly House led by Greenhouse Assistant Horticulturist, Sonya Ogden. You’ll learn to knot a beautiful and functional macramé holder for your Brassavola orchid. By the end of the session, you’ll have a brand-new plant holder and know how to care for your new orchid.

Indianapolis Ballet Presents Family Series: Sleeping Beauty Suite
Times Vary | The Tobias Theater at NewfieldsJoin us to experience Indianapolis Ballet’s closing season performance of Sleeping Beauty Suite, an abbreviated version of a timeless fairytale, The Sleeping Beauty. Run time is approximately 1.5 hours with one intermission. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

Thursday through Sunday 1–3 PM | Indianapolis Museum of Art Galleries at NewfieldsAsk questions and exchange ideas with our knowledgeable IMA Docents. Guests of all ages can learn about works of art in the museum galleries on floors 2 and 3.

Käthe Kollwitz: Visions of Solidarity and Resilience examines the life, artwork, and technical skill of Kollwitz through the IMA’s diverse range of prints by the artist, spanning the early and later years of her work.

Carlos Rolón: Hilos de resurgimiento (Threads of Resurgence)
Museum Hours | Indianapolis Museum of Art Galleries at NewfieldsHilos de resurgimiento presenta seis nuevas obras por encargo a gran escala hechas de lonas reutilizadas que habían sido distribuidas por FEMA para ser usadas como techos en comunidades de Puerto Rico impactadas por desastres climáticos.

Shinique Smith: Torque
Museum Hours | Efroymson Family Entrance PavilionNow through June 1, guests will be welcomed into the Indianapolis Museum of Art by a newly commissioned piece from artist Shinique Smith. Smith’s multi-sensory installation is suspended in the Efroymson Family Entrance Pavilion and combines banners of printed and painted textiles, found objects, and the sounds of racing, speed and motion.

Fairbanks Park Project: Garlic Mustard Pull
10 AM–Noon | The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park at NewfieldsGarlic mustard is an invasive plant that produces a lot of seeds and disrupts the pollination of native ephemeral plants. It’s also an edible herb and is really fun to pull!

Member Mornings: Early Access to Newfields
9–10 AM | NewfieldsRise and shine to enjoy early access at Newfields. The IMA Galleries and The Garden will open to Members at 9 AM. Soak in the morning sunlight while strolling through The Garden or discover something new in the IMA Galleries before Newfields opens to the public at 10 AM.
