Walter Egan

Walter Egan is an artist and fabricator who recently received his BFA from the Herron School of Art and Design. As a jack-of-all-trades, Walter studied and work as an illustrator, sculptor, printmaker, and fabricator throughout Indianapolis. The folklore, myth, urban legends, and paranormal phenomena of the world inspire him. His phantasmagoric body of work deals with creating narratives and characters that capture the strange and otherworldly creations of the imagination.

"There is a deep importance to finding and admiring the finer details of the world around us. The appreciation of those details allows one to see the stories that are being told all around them. My work is heavily inspired by the folklore, myth, and stories of this world as well as the imagined fantastic stories seen in writing, animation, and comics. I make art to create and tell narratives of my own. I aim to create characters and narratives that are not entirely of this world, merely reminiscent of it. The creatures and objects that I construct take on personalities of their own, every feature and characteristic is added to elevate the piece from being an art object to becoming something with a life, personality, and story. I take imagined narratives, characters, and objects and make them feel as if they were always real."
