Artful Party: Fall

Join us on Friday, September 27 for the Newfields' Artful Party: Fall celebrating the debut of several recent exhibition openings including the highly anticipated grand opening of Future Now: Virtual Sneakers to Cutting-Edge Kicks, as well as Carlos Rolón: Threads of Resurgence, Matter of Record: Photography and the Creation of Meaning, and the latest rotation of Message is the Medium: Contemporary Art.

1 PM | Efroymson Family Entrance Pavilion Floor 2

Explore works of art through interactive dialogue with a museum Docent. (30 minutes)

Gallery Conversations in Work in Progress: Conversations about American Art

Thursday through Sunday 1–3 PM | Indianapolis Museum of Art Galleries at Newfields

Ask questions and exchange ideas with our knowledgeable IMA Docents. Guests of all ages can learn about works of art in the museum galleries on floors 2 and 3.

Shinique Smith: Torque

Museum Hours | Efroymson Family Entrance Pavilion

Beginning this summer, guests will be welcomed into the Indianapolis Museum of Art by a newly commissioned piece from artist Shinique Smith. Smith’s multi-sensory installation will be suspended in the Efroymson Family Entrance Pavilion and will combine banners of printed and painted textiles, found objects, and the sounds of racing, speed and motion.

Carlos Rolón: Hilos de resurgimiento (Threads of Resurgence)

Matter of Record: Photography and the Creation of Meaning explores how photography has engaged with current events and issues since its invention. The art in the exhibition represents 150 years of some of the most important photographers’ participation in our understanding of war, labor, social justice, different environments, and cultural identities.

Garden Monsters: Petrifying Plants & Bewitching Blooms

Throughout the fall, The Garden at Newfields is home to a fleet of fang-tastic monsters all designed by local artists. Crunch through fallen leaves and take in cornucopias of colorful gourds and pumpkins but keep a close eye out for monstrous ghosts, ghouls, and goblins that are hiding in plain sight.
